1How do I know home care is the right choice for my loved one?

A 2013 RBC survey found that 91 per cent said they want to stay in their home or neighbourhood and live independently as long as possible. Also, 150,000 Ontarians purchase an additional 20 million hours of home care services annually in order to remain in their homes.

2How much work is it to care for my loved one myself?

The average family caregiver spends 20 hours per week caring for their loved one, but as much as one quarter spends 40 hours per week.

3Doesn’t the government pay for it?

In Ontario only 5% of total health expenditures are awarded to subsidized home care services.

4Are you accredited?

Yes, Home Care Ottawa is 100% accredited by Accreditation Canada and we have Exemplary Standing, which means we exceed the national standards for health care. We are also rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau.

5Are you a locally owned business?

Yes, we are an Ottawa-based business and have been since 1994.

6I live in Barrhaven. Can I use your service?

We serve the communities of Barrhaven, Carleton Place, Kanata, Nepean, Kemptville, Greely, Gatineau, and Gloucester.

7What hours are you available?

Home Care Ottawa is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days a year. You can call us anytime, day or night and we will answer.

8Are your employees bonded and ensured?

All of our caregivers are bonded and must have up-to-date criminal records checks.

9Will I have the same caregiver each day?

We offer consistency of care by keeping the same staff within your home and by letting you know if staff changes will be occurring before they happen.

10How do you select your caregivers?

We believe in taking time to find the appropriate staff to represent Home Care Ottawa and follow our Mission and Values as a company. To be considered for a position staff must meet the following criteria:

  • Nurses and PSW’s must have a Diploma or Certificate from an accredited school
  • Professional nurses must be in good standing with the CNO
  • Vulnerable Persons Police Check (within a 6 month period)
  • Professional references and background checks
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Immunization History – including yearly flu Vaccinations, Hepatitis B Vaccine, and Tuberculosis Screening
  • A caring nature and enthusiasm for their vocation
11My mother only speaks French. Can she still use your services?

Many of our team members are fully bilingual.

13How quickly can service start?

Service usually starts within 24-48 hours but can sometimes start the very same day!

14Will you work with my insurance company?

Home Care Ottawa wants to make things easier on you so we work with insurance companies as much as possible.

15How do I pay for service?

We accept cash and all major credit cards. Also, our financing option allows you even more flexibility in payment.
